Jennifer, an Ambassador of Hospitality, has explored the modalities of recovery, from ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families) to 12-step groups. “I really appreciate the concept of recovery, and that at the Café, the byline is that we’re all in recovery from something; it doesn’t have to be related to substances,” she shared.
Throughout her search for an approach that resonated with her, she noticed an overarching theme – all of these groups and spaces are based in community. “Something I have learned about people in recovery is that the fellowship aspect of it is so important. Connections with other human beings is a necessary piece, whether they’re in a 12-step group or finding their path another way.”
At Recovery Café Longmont, belonging, acceptance, and connection are the core of what makes our community so special. Regardless of demographic or lived experience, the idea that everyone is in recovery from something creates a common ground for our members, volunteers, staff, and guests to stand on.
“I’m touched that this is a place where people can just be,” Jennifer said, reflecting on the genuine conversations, shared meals, and bonds built in the Café. After searching for an opportunity to volunteer in a capacity that could truly make a difference in her community, she found just that at RCL.
“Given that we all have challenging things in our lives, various obstacles, sometimes people need extra help and support. Finding that support from other people who have come out the other side is important.”
An all-around creative, Jennifer spends her free time dancing, playing music, singing, and reading – she says there’s nothing like a great novel that just pulls you in, especially if you learn something from it. Nurturing, kind, and radiating with positivity, she is a joy to have in the Café; her awareness of the different approaches to recovery and the value of community is just the cherry on top.
