Recap: Heart of Recovery Thanksgiving Dinner

Last Wednesday, Heart of Longmont Church and Recovery Café Longmont collaborated to host the 2nd annual Heart of Recovery Thanksgiving Dinner. Inspired by the theme “Nourishing the Community”, members of the Heart of Longmont prepared dishes in their homes and delivered them to the Café; placemats made by Café members depicted the hands that come together to create a nourishing meal; and staff and volunteers delivered an elevated, memorable dining experience.

CentraLongmont Presbyterian Church gave us a warm and welcoming setting for the meal in the Fellowship Hall. After two days of setup, the space was transformed into an elegant dining room with a festive and cozy atmosphere.

The Heart of Recovery dinner is a testament to the Café’s growth; Andy, a member since our opening, shared: “When the Café started in 2019, we just did Thanksgiving lunch – sitting down for dinner this year felt fancy.”

He continued, remarking on the leisurely nature of the meal, “We could sit and take our time eating.” Andy brought a guest, who, after attending the meal, returned to the Café to learn more. Seeing the care and effort put into the meal, friends and family members got to experience what it’s like to be a part of Recovery Café Longmont.

Our members share a meal each day they come in – but the Heart of Recovery dinner was an extraordinary occasion; as the staff ran plates heaping with home-cooked food, families laughed together, new friendships were forged, and our appreciation for our community grew tenfold.

We are immensely grateful to the Heart of Longmont crew for helping us put on such a wonderful event, to CentraLongmont for graciously hosting us, and to our staff, volunteers, and members, who make our community so special and worthy of celebrating.
